When you lose someone, your heart doesn't break. Nor do you lose your head. You don't have a hole in you, you don't become an amputee. You do just fine. And that's the painful thing. To think that your body is so obnoxiously fine, oblivious to the pain and loneliness your soul feels. As if it has no idea what your going through, as if it were just a machine. Something different get broken, something indescribable. Something like a part of your soul. But I like to say your shadow is broken. Shadow, not in the mundane sense of the word. But the kind that holds part of your spirit. And Peter Pan's distress becomes understandable.
